Minnesota Chamber of Commerce

The voting record of Minnesota’s lawmakers during the 2018 legislative session has been reported by the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce.

Each scored vote represents an issue integral to growing business and Minnesota’s economy as a whole, said the chamber in a news release.

“The voting record is an important way for us to communicate with our members and the statewide business community how legislators voted on priority concerns like tax conformity and reform, health care costs, and transportation funding, in addition to other key business issues,” said Laura Bordelon, Minnesota Chamber senior vice president for advocacy. “It shows how we make progress on issues each year and highlights legislators who support making Minnesota a better place for employers and employees to stay, grow and succeed here.”

The chamber’s message to strengthen the business climate for the benefit of all Minnesotans resonated with a majority of legislators, Bordelon noted. However, many key measures were unfortunately vetoed by Gov. Mark Dayton, leaving unfinished business for next year.

“We encourage Minnesotans to review the report and then connect with their legislators,” she said. “Be sure to thank those who voted in favor of your priorities. For those who did not, begin a conversation about how their decisions impact the ability to grow businesses and jobs in Minnesota in the rapidly changing global economy.”

The charts in this report reflect those votes cast on the Minnesota Chamber’s priority legislation in the 2017-18 biennium, offering a broader record of legislators’ stances on the business community’s initiatives.

The commentary in this report addresses only actions of the 2018 Legislature.

The Minnesota Chamber is a statewide organization representing more than 2,300 businesses of all types and sizes – and more than half a million employees – throughout Minnesota.
