Happy helpers

Interested in volunteering? This holiday season may be the time to do it.

Volunteers are still needed for this year’s Christmas Day Dinner, and organizer Lee Grim urges those interested to sign up for the variety of jobs available.

The event is held annually at Elks Lodge 1599 where dinner is served from 1-4 p.m. Meal delivery is also available from 11 a.m. — 12:30 p.m. for those who are unable to attend the dinner.

“The delivery is free and open to all in our community,” said Grim in a letter sent to area businesses, churches and organizations in the Borderland area. “This dinner is meant for everyone who wishes to attend or is in need of a delivered meal.”

At last year’s event, dinner was provided for about 600 people, the letter said.

“Local businesses and volunteers have contributed food, supplies and volunteer labor to make this a wonderful event,” continued Grim. “Local community musicians will provide music, so we can all enjoy Christmas songs. This is an opportunity for all who want to be with others to share this Christmas festival together.”

Email to ravenlhg@gmail.com by Dec. 23 to sign up to have a meal be delivered or call 218-240-5125 at 11 a.m. on Christmas Day to request a meal be delivered during the noon hour. People wanting takeout meals after 12:30 p.m. need to come to the Elks Lodge to retrieve them. Community members should use the same contact information if interested in volunteering.

Dessert bars and pies are also needed, according to the letter. They can be delivered to the Elks Lodge starting Monday or early during the morning on Christmas Day.

Free will donations are accepted with all proceeds going to the Falls Hunger Coalition. Checks can be made out to the Falls Hunger Coalition.
