Koochiching County 4-H held its annual special events day Wednesday, and organizers claim the day was a “great success.”

“We had a lot of kids who shared their talents,” said Jan Derdowski, regional extension educator with the University of Minnesota.

Derdowski, who was the emcee for Wednesday’s event, announced youngsters participating in a fashion revue, a food revue, performing arts, and demonstrations. Members also participated in a horse show held on Thursday.

Fourteen 4-H members represented International Falls, Indus, Littlefork, and Northome.

Results from Wednesday’s

events include:

• Fashion revue — Isabella Ettestad, grand champion, International Falls; and Kelsey Eibler, reserve champion, International Falls.

• Performing arts — Sophie Eitenmiller, grand champion, Northome; and Jamie Sjoblom, reserve champion, International Falls.

• Demonstrations — Joseph Toninato, grand champion, International Falls.

• Food revue — Eitenmiller, grand champion; and Eibler, reserve champion.

Results from Thursday’s horse show were not available as of press time.

Each grand champion and reserve champion earned a trip to compete at the Minnesota State Fair in August.

“Our goal is to prepare kids for moving on to the State Fair,” Derdowski explained.

“I just love the effort put into the day by everyone,” said Jordan Pearson, who was a judge at the event. “It’s great seeing the participants giving it their all with hopes of going to the State Fair.”

“The kids are not judged on who did the best,” organizer Marcia Glover told The Journal last week. “Judging is based on age and how well they did. Participants really have to look at their exhibit and understand it and be comfortable with it.”

Each participant was given Wednesday to rehearse for their category and receive feedback from the judges on how they could improve for Thursday’s judging. Derdowski said contestants took the judge’s words to heart and she saw a difference in their main performances that evening.
