GOLDEN VALLEY — Pres. Barack Obama visited Honeywell’s international headquarters Friday to urge Congress to act on his “to-do list.”

Specifically highlighting the need to honor the nation’s commitment to returning veterans by passing legislation that creates a veterans jobs corps to help Afghanistan and Iraq war veterans get jobs.

Honeywell has hired more than 900 returning veterans since 2011.

“If you save a life on the battlefield, you can save a life in an ambulance,” said Obama. “I believe that no one who fights for this country should ever have to fight for a job when they come home.”

The government's jobs report for May showed that only 69,000 jobs were added during the month. That was the fewest in a year, as the unemployment rate increased to 8.2 percent from 8.1 percent in April.

“We are not growing as fast as we want to grow,” he said. “We will come back stronger. We do have better days ahead.”

He concluded by saying, “just like you fought for us, we’ll keep fighting for you.”
