Last week, an option to obtain or renew a construction contractor or worker license became available across the state.

The Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry launched the online system, which allows for faster processing than paper forms, according to a department spokesperson. The online option can be used for a variety of worker licenses within the construction industry.

“By using the DLI ReNew licensing system, both renewals and initial applications submitted online can be processed a week faster than those submitted by mail,” said Ken Peterson, the department’s commissioner. “Instead of mailing paper forms and checks for processing, online users can enter the necessary information, upload the required documents and pay their fee in a matter of minutes.”

Each year, the labor and industry department issues more than 50,000 licenses, certificates and registrations for electrical, elevator, high-pressure-plumbing and residential contractors as well as for boiler operators, electricians and plumbers.

Overall, there are approximately 120,000 Minnesota license holders in the construction industry.
