The annual Arrowhead "Ultra" cross country race from International Falls to Fortune Bay Casino is rapidly approaching. The start of the race is scheduled for 7:00am on 1 Febuary 2010 and will start in International Falls this year. There are still some spaces available for qualified entrants and an application form can be obtained online by calling 651-204-3193. Various support arrangements are still being made and if you would like to help out we can use pick up vehicles at several points to include the Gateway Store at Kabetogama, The Sheep ranch road and Mel Georges at Elephant lake. We can, of course, always use snow mobilers to assist at many points. Call 218-240-4327 if you would like to volunteer. Amateur radio 2 meter operators are also needed for several points especially at elephant Lake.
Their will be a safety and rules meeting at the VFW at 3:30 pm on 31 January followed by a ceremony and diner for the entrants and volunteers at 5:00pm also at the VFW. The race will start in the area between the Outdoorsmen and Kerry Park. There may be room available for the public to attend the diner and welcome the entrants and more on this will be posted at a later date.
A matter of great importance to our local community is that 10 countries will be represented in this years race from Singapore, Samoa,Brazil, Germany, France, Canada, England,Afganistan and others. If you see these folks on the streets, welcome them heartedly as they have come at great expense to our little city just to see if they can finish the race. As I previously stated, there are a few spots available and I am going to try and force my tired 63 year old body to finish the 135 miles so I was thinking a few of you out there might want to try also. Its a great comaraderie among the entrants that will last forever. See you on race day and hopefully at the finish line also.
