AdopSource, a nonprofit organization in the Twin Cities, is looking to spend a couple of hours talking with interracial adoptees from International Falls about their experiences.
Please Participate in the MN International Adoptee Needs Assessment
The Minnesota International Adoptee Needs Assessment will conduct outreach throughout the state of Minnesota where many adoptee families are concentrated (Rochester, St. Cloud, Willmar, Duluth, Brainerd, Marshall, International Falls, and the Twin Cities). The overarching goal is to obtain an accurate picture of the experiences, needs, and issues faced by international adoptees living in Minnesota.
AdopSource and its partners are conducting the first and only statewide needs assessment that aims to address issues relating to racial identity and adoptee awareness. This project is unique because it is conceived of and carried out by adult adoptees with input from adoptive parents. It aims to help adoptees that have had similar experiences. Although international adoption has been taking place for over the past 60 years, AdopSource and its partners recognize gaps in services and a lack of resources offered to adoptees and their families. This is a 2-year study from Summer 2011 through Summer 2013. This study aims to reach at least 3% of each population (approximately 1,000 people total).
ONLINE SURVEY
Please take five minutes from your day and complete the MN International Adoptee Needs Assessment Online Survey. Your voice will help us establish the statistics, needs, and issues on international adoptees and their families in Minnesota. With these results we hope to provide a book (HERE TOO), a documentary (Voices of Adoption), and potential post-adoption services for adoptees and their families.
[NOTE: You must be a resident of Minnesota to participate and only submit one survey per person]

FOCUS GROUPS
We are still looking for additional international adoptees and adoptive parents to join our Needs Assessment Focus Groups. These groups are a chance for international adoptees and adoptive parents to share their experiences in a small group environment. Each group (International Adoptive Parents, International Teen Adoptees ages 13-17, and International Adult Adoptees age 18 and over) will have its own trained facilitator and will have the opportunity to share their own experiences, hear other perspectives within the adoptee community, and have the option to share their stories in the creation of the documentary "Voices of Adoption" (in partnership with Rainbow World and Jennifer Arndt-Johns) and the book "HERE TOO" (in partnership with The HERE Project and Kim Jackson).
If you are interested in participating, please contact us at info@adopsource.org with your:
1. Name
2. Email
3. Phone Number
4. Preferred focus group date/location (listed on the right)
5. Which group you belong to (Adoptive Parent, Teen Adoptee, or Adult Adoptee)
We will contact you 2 weeks prior to the focus group you are scheduled for in order to send you focus group guidelines and waivers.
Please note: Due to size limitations, we limit our focus groups to 6-8 participants per group. Participants must be current Minnesota residents.
There will also be additional focus groups scheduled in the other parts of the Twin Cities area and throughout the state of Minnesota during 2012. Please be sure to check our website for updates to our focus group schedule or feel free to email info@adopsource.org at any time with inquiries.
Thank you and we look forward to meeting you in one of our upcoming focus groups!
