I am an intern here at The Journal. Over the summer I will be writing a few articles about teen news in the community. My goal here at The Journal is to give more teens a voice in the community and to cover things that we find important.
One of the reasons I wanted to be an intern here is to get started on a career in writing. I have been writing short stories since age 10, and have fallen in love with writing ever since. I currently am a VIP member of TeenInk, a national literary magazine and website, and have won a few Editors’ Choice Awards on a few of my submitted articles. I think that it would be exciting if some of my stories were a part of The Journal, so local teens can read some of my work.
I think that some teens feel neglected in today’s society and my job here to give some kids a voice that they don’t feel they have. I hope to talk about things that kids want to hear in the newspaper. I can cover stories about bullying in school and if all of the posters and class meetings are really accomplishing anything. Are just only a few kids the problem, or is the whole school really in need of education against bullying.
I believe that we are now living in the Digital Age, and our generation will be even more immersed in technology than we are now. I want to talk about the exciting new innovations in the gaming industry, like the next-gen consoles and groundbreaking video games hitting shelves this fall.
Another things I feel should be covered are the books and movies captivating youth around the country, and their effects on teens in the community. I can point out what teens might want to pick up at the local library. Did you like the Hunger Games? Why not check out some more novels which are making a splash as a part of the dystopian literature craze? I hope to give you your peers’ reviews on the latest blockbusters hitting the movie theaters these upcoming months. It could just save you a couple of bucks by knowing what your friends thought about the latest video game or upcoming film
The most important part about my work here is to hear from teens around the community. Got something going on this summer you think should have more attention? Did you take an awesome shot of your friend which you think deserves a spot in the paper? Do you have some good questions about our town that you want answers to? Shoot me an e-mail at eric@ifallsjournal.com, and I’d be more than happy to see what you got. Even text me at 218-417-0840 if you want to let me know about any ideas you have about something I could put in the paper, or just ideas about our role in the community altogether. E-mail or text me anytime to let me know about anything you think is important.
