December is almost upon us and that means holiday schedules and changes. The holidays can be a very busy, stressful time so it can be very important to find ways to relax. Come get a book or two to have on hand anytime you have a few moments to read. Reading is a great way to escape and let the stress slip away. Come get books for the entire family for when stress levels rise and an escape from the busyness of the holidays is needed.
The Friends of the Library are collecting wrapped picture books for distribution to Head Start children. The deadline is Saturday, Dec. 8, although if you have a book ready before then you are welcome to drop it off anytime between now and then The Friends of the Library have purchased copies of the “Ready for Kindergarten” calendar to add to all the books. This calendar provides a short daily activity that preschool children and parents can do together to help children be ready for kindergarten.
Storytime will be held Thursday mornings, Nov. 29, Dec. 6 and 13 at 10:30 a.m. with all three weeks celebrating with holiday stories, songs and rhymes. Join us for 20 to 30 minutes of active learning.
Thursday, Dec. 6, at noon the library is hosting Zach Johnson in a “Holidays in Song” concert. He will share a variety of traditional and contemporary holiday songs and share some of the background surrounding the songs. Join us for an hour of stress-free holiday fun sponsored by the Arrowhead Library System and its Legacy grant.
The monthly Friends of the Library book sale will be Saturday, Dec. 8, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This will be your last chance to pick up books before the holidays. We have lots of great children’s books, especially picture books. Come take a look. All sales are by donation with proceeds benefitting the Friends support of the library. The Friends of the Library will meet Monday, Dec. 10, at 3:30 p.m. for holiday readings and treats and to get the Project Bookshelf books ready to distribute.
Teen gaming will be Tuesday, Dec. 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. Teens in grades 7 and above are welcome to come and spend time playing at the library. We have two Wiis and a PS3 along with a variety of games. Refreshments are provided.
Pictures and Pens, the library photo and writing contest continues. Pictures are due by Dec. 10 with stories due by Wednesday, Dec. 26, at 6 p.m.
The library will host a holiday gathering on Wednesday, Dec. 19, from 4 to 6 p.m. Join us for holiday treats as we wish the community another great year of books and more.
The library will be open, Saturday, Dec. 22, open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24, closed Tuesday, Dec. 25, with regular hours the remainder of the week. The following week the library will close at 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 31 and be closed Tuesday, Jan. 1.
