Good doctors play an important role in a community. They truly have the lives of the community in their hands.
That’s why we support an approach being launched by the Rainy Lake Medical Center that will involve the community in its efforts to not only recruit good physicians, but also their families.
Bob Haley, interim RLMC CEO, recently discussed a variety of challenges and accomplishments at our community’s largest health provider. Among the challenges, he said, are recruiting and retaining physicians in Borderland.
To address the recent loss of physicians, Haley said a physician recruiting/retention committee has been established that will include a community component. That community component will involve matching physician candidates with people and families of like interests and make up.
That sounds like a great idea. It is the responsibility of this community to step up and showcase the values and wonders of this great community and to make candidates feel welcome and ready to join us.
Once recruited, the community’s responsibility does not end. Instead, these physicians and their families will need to be nurtured for a period by host contacts who will make sure these doctors and their families know how to fit in, how to get involved and how to not only survive here, but to flourish as productive members of the community.
Do we want good and happy doctors who bring their families and make this their home? Of course. The next step is for this community to get involved.
