An Oct. 16 candidate forum is an opportunity for all involved.
The forum, planned for 6 p.m. at Rainy River Community College, is being coordinated by International Falls Area Chamber of Commerce and involves students, candidates and the public.
The content, format and execution of the forum will be produced by the RRCC Student Senate along with high school students from the Falls and Indus. The group is under the direction of Bradley Krasaway, RRCC Student Senate advisor; and Wade Sutton, Indus English instructor.
Clearly, any time young people get involved in our democracy and the process to elect the leaders who will guide our future is valuable to our community and society as a whole. It’s a chance for the students to learn about the process as well as about issues specific to this election.
In this kind of event, candidates get to tell voters about themselves in their own words. Voters have a chance to see and hear directly from the candidates allowing them to judge for themselves who would best represent their views in elected positions.
In addition, members of the public can submit questions that they would like posed to the candidates. The community may submit questions to Krasaway at brad.krasaway@rainyriver.edu.
We won’t cover the forum because we offered candidates a print and web format for readers to gauge candidates’ views and backgrounds.
However, we’ve encouraged voters to do their homework before entering the voting booth and this is another opportunity to do just that.
