We like the sounds of ‘business as usual’ when it comes to the sale of 286,000 acres of timberlands located in Koochiching and St. Louis counties.

Forest Capital Partners, a presence in our community since 2004, announced last week the sale of its Minnesota forestlands to the Molpus Woodlands Group.

The timberlands help supply wood to the Boise paper mill in International Falls and employs many local folks.

That business-as-usual-attitude means that Forest Capital employees will be merged into the new ownership, making the transition seamless, locally. The statements of a spokesman for the Molpus group shows that they recognize and appreciate the knowledge and skills of the local employees.

Molpus President Dick Molpus said in a statement that the timberlands are intensively managed, highly productive and situated near timber markets with competitive pricing. That means that the company will continue to manage the forestlands as they have been managed for years under the ownership of Forest Capital and before that, Boise Cascade.

Molpus also said the focus will remain on client objectives and the company will employ innovative management and technologies geared toward sustainable forestry.

The wood products industry has been and will continue to be an economic driver in our community. Based on what we know today, the purchase by Molpus shouldn’t change that.

Welcome, Molpus Woodland Group. We want you to be comfortable and profitable in our community.
