2008 crime rates/arrest rates by the Int'l Falls Police Dept. and Koochiching County Sheriffs Dept. posted by the MN Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA)
Is our police and sheriffs dept. really doing a good job as stated by previous comments on this web-site. (www.bca.state.mn.us)
The following definitions are from the same BCA web-site that produced the statistics.
CRIME RATE: Criminal offenses reported for each unit of population, generally per 100,000 persons.
The state average crime rate for municipal police depts. is 9110 crimes reported for every 100,000 people.
Int'l Falls PD crime rate is 12,099 crimes reported for every 100,000 people.
West St.Paul has a crime rate of 10,860 crimes reported for every 100,000 people.(Lower than Int'l Falls!!!!!!!)
The state average crime rate for Sheriff's Dept's is 5391 crimes reported for every 100,000 people.
Koochiching County Sheriffs Dept. has a crime rate of 6211 crimes reported for every 100,000 people.
CRIME RATE CLEARED BY ARREST: Offense cleared by arrest or solved when at least 1 person is arrested or charged with the commission of the offense.
The state average for municipal PD's like Int'l Falls PD for percent cleared is 45%. (45% of reported crimes result in an arrest)
Int'l Falls PD has a percent cleared rate of 22%.Nearly the lowest rate in the state.
Koochiching County Sheriffs Dept. has a percent cleared rate of 23% which is higher than the Int'l Falls PD but the lowest percentage in the state for Sheriffs Dept's.
Does our area have exceptionally smart criminals that seem to be immune to arrest or is there problems with our police departments as a whole?
I look forward to all the comments I'm sure I will get Re: this issue and I will be offering more statistics in the future if I don't get censored after this post.
Thank you and please let me know your feelings Re: the above material.
