To the editor,
The International Falls Economic Development Authority is hosting a “public walk” through the Donahue property on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
The Donahue family generously gifted their 125 acres to the city of International Falls located west of Menard’s, with much of the land being adjacent to the Rainy River and Falls Country Club.
Since this contribution has been made, many citizens have asked city officials what our plans are for it. The Donahue family’s gift comes with only one requirement –— which is to build a public trail dedicated to the Donahue family. The family also has a wish the land be strategically developed to enhance the property tax base and make the area more vibrant. City officials share that wish. The newly created International Falls Economic Development Authority Advisory Board will be responsible for establishing and implementing the strategic development plan, including input from citizens and key stakeholders.
If you would like to participate in the walk, please meet us at 1 p.m., on County Road 152 (referred to as the Golf Course Road). The walk will be a little over one mile, through the woods, on varied terrain. Wear blaze orange, hiking boots or comfortable walking shoes. In the case of rain, the walk will be moved to the next day, 1 p.m.
