To the editor,

Yes, U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar is a nice lady, but has she gotten the job done? I would submit no she has not.

The United States Senate should pass a budget; they haven’t since April 29, 2009, which is over three years. Our national debt now exceeds $16 trillion and is the direct result of unsustainable spending. Balancing the budget is part of the job. If any of us didn’t do our job in three years we would be fired.

Federal spending per household has grown more than 150 percent since 1965. If we want our children and our grandchildren to live with the same liberty and prosperity that we have, this trend must be reversed.

The answers are straightforward. The senator we choose must work with fellow members to pass a budget, and focus on lowering spending.

Unlike Republicans, Sen. Klobuchar has played it safe. Not voting for a budget, not taking on entitlements, and voting for continued massive government spending. Our debt has doubled on her watch, a moral and ethical travesty she campaigned against in 2006. There is no talk of fixing our deficits, or any care or concern for the debt.

In 2006, she took her then Republican opponent to task for supporting the addition of $300 billion to the national debt. Of course, since she has been in office, the debt has exploded by over $7.3 trillion.

My suggestion: hire Kurt Bills for the job of U.S. senator. Kurt Bills is a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives. While serving in the Minnesota Legislature, he continues to teach economics at Rosemount High School each morning before heading to the Capitol building. His teaching duties over the last 15 years include advanced courses in micro and macroeconomics and American government and politics.

Mr. Bills was elected to the Rosemount City Council in 2008 and to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 2010. He has the knowledge and experience to bring answers and solutions to the United States Senate (and he is a nice guy, too.)

Sorry Sen. Klobuchar, while you may be a nice lady, I and my children need someone who is serious about getting the important job done and return fiscal responsibility to Washington D.C.
