To the editor,

In regards to The Journal story on May 19, 2012, “Cravaack bill opposes six-pack requirements on Mille Lacs” please allow me to make a few comments.

As a voter who supported (Congressman Chip) Cravaack in the last election I agree with him that “the Coast Guard authority over Mille Lacs is redundant, excessive and duplicative.”   Unfortunately, we will never see his support or relief on Rainy Lake because our local economy depends too much on the “protection racket” federal dollars that Cravaack, (U.S. Sen. Amy) Klobuchar and (U.S. Sen. Al) Franken trip over to send our way in their quest for reelection. For social conservatives, Cravaack may be a godsend. However, many fiscal and liberty minded conservatives and independents now see him as just another politician selling our real liberty to the highest bidder.

Come November, Cravaack will surely learn that all his pandering to the local governments in the northern half of the 8th District will have been for not.

When a local small business cannot compete with a local government for crushed rock, commercial buildings and much more something is wrong. (By the way, why do we need an economic developer when the city and the county are doing all the developing?)

Cravaack has showed his cards. They are more government cards. Not small business cards. Even if he throws a fishing guide a bone.

He could actually help the country if he offered a lot less war, a lot less Karl Rove and a lot more Ron Paul.
