To the editor,
My name is Cory Ecklund, and my dad is a member of the United Steel Workers. He has worked for Boise Paper for 23 years. Through my dad’s work, I am very much aware of the importance of our natural resources to our region’s economic vitality. I’m thankful that my dad’s job in the forest products industry provided the wages and benefits that has allowed our family to live comfortably.
That is why I am supporting Rick Nolan for Congress. Rick understands the forest products industry, having owned and operated a sawmill. Rick supports all of the natural resource based industry that the 8th congressional district is known for worldwide. He also understands the importance of protecting worker safety, collective bargaining rights, and reasonable environmental regulation.
Rick has always been clear and consistent in his message; we need to have natural resource based industry, but it has to protect our environment and our workers.
Rick’s Republican opponent supports streamlining environmental permitting process, which is a good thing, but he also supports gutting worker protection, a very bad thing.
Rick supports industry and the labor force that drives industry.
That is why I am voting for Rick Nolan on Aug. 14. I urge you to vote for Rick, too.
