To the editor:

The International Falls City Council applauds our fellow citizens, neighbors and visitors for outstanding support of various recent events.

River Fest 2012 was a tremendous success. The Pulling for Peace event had impeccable planning and was assured to be a grand event between two friendly nations until Mother Nature decided who would win the tug, our treasured annual Independence Day celebration, and the exciting Smokey Bear Golf Tournament.  

Literally, over 300 volunteers from both sides of the border, numerous businesses, media and organizations, were needed to plan and implement these accumulative activities.

We express our appreciation to everyone who helped in any way. We would also like to recognize the good work of our city public works, fire/EMS, police and administration departments for their leadership in ensuring the city of International Falls is a great place to host community events.  

Great job to all. We will see you at the next anticipated and cherished annual event — the International Falls Bass Championship Aug. 23, 24 and 25 in Smokey Bear Park.
