To the editor,
We, the Koochiching Men’s Garden Club, would like to remind homeowners that black knot disease on cherry trees will emerge out of dormancy by the end of this month.
We remind the readers that the time is again here to take charge to control these ugly nodules in our trees.
The infected trees are able to infect healthy plants both wild and domestic.
It also means that homeowners with cherry and chokecherry trees that are infected will spread the disease and continue the spread of the black knot infection.
The tell-tale black growth that deform branches should be removed and burned or buried to prevent the spread of this fungal disease.
In order to control this disease, the deformed branches or the entire tree must be cut off and disposed of properly.
We highly recommend this practice to keep our city looking clean and healthy.
Thank you for all the work done so far.
For more information Google “Black Knot.”
