To the editor,

With the horrible tragedy that happened at Connecticut, it’s time that security is beefed up at our schools – door guards, buzz-in systems, cameras – what ever it takes before the question is ‘how could this happen?’ because preventative measures weren’t taken.

The past two threats that occurred where not handled well at all. And now, the most recent incident with a 12 year old? No more delays on this subject. It’s time to take action. And if it’s a money problem, use the money the city council wants to remodel the administration office: $150,000 to $400,000 should cover it. (I believe that’s the estimate for the remodeling job.)

This is not a matter that should be put on hold. I do not want to worry ever time the phone rings that it’s a call that my kid has been shot or killed while attending school.

If a mural trumps a city code, surely our children’s safety trumps remodeling.

The time has come for public servants to serve the public.
