To the editor,
This is in reference to the recent letter in The Journal in support of “traditional marriage.” That the writer is a decent man is well known but his claim to be using logic in denying gays and lesbians “traditional marriage” because of the feasibility of civil unions is contradictory.
In doing so he supports “separate but equal” in marital ceremony; a concept which was declared unconstitutional when used to support segregated public education over 50 years ago by the U.S. Supreme Court. So, isn’t his stance, then, really a denial of logic?
Please vote “no” on the protection of marriage constitutional amendment this November. And while you are at it, please also vote “no” on the photo ID amendment. If passed, both are regressive measures that will do a disservice to the reputation of our fair-minded state.
