To the editor,
It is commendable when our elected officials at the local, state and federal level can work together to accomplish something that benefits the local community.
It does happen and it did happen recently when U.S. Rep. Chip Cravaack and U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar reached across the aisle and expedited the transfer of surplus federal property owned by the U.S. Border Patrol, through the General Services Administration, and recently received by North Koochiching Area Sanitary District. This small piece of federal property has become the poster child in D.C. to expedite the billions of dollars of surplus property that should be given to local entities more quickly.
Even if the property is given over for minimal consideration, the federal government is not heating, lighting and spending additional millions to maintain.
This was in the federal system for seven years and would still be there if it wasn’t for these two officials working together. Commendable, keep it up.
