I’m ready for some warm weather, please! Whoever ordered this cool, damp snowy spring, I hope you are happy and ready to let it warm up. But the weather is encouraging me to spend lots of time reading as I don’t want to be outside in the cold. I do want to be outside, but in the warm sunshine. So I’ve been reading lots, getting ready to visit local classes and talk about summer reading.
Summer reading will begin the last day of school, May 30, for youth and Monday, June 3, for teens and adults.
I don’t know how much I will be capable of growing this summer, but the library has lots of gardening books available and maybe my growing season will consist of reading gardening books and staring forlornly at my starts and wishing they would do something besides sit there.
My thoughts and prayers are with this community and in particular the individuals who will be looking for work in the next months. The library has a variety of resources to help you as you look for new skills and job.
The library subscribes to “Career Transitions” an online resource available 24/7, providing hands-on guidance and immediate access to key job search activities, including multi-faceted job searching, activities for creating resumes and cover letters, applying and preparing for interviews. It will also help in discovering career interests; identifying new opportunities based on work or military experience; exploring growing career paths, including green and new economy jobs; and finding education and training.
Access to this online site can be from the library computers or from home with our standard passwords. Call or stop by the library if you need the password.
As part of the Arrowhead Library System we also have available “Learning Express Library” with practice tests, exercises, skill-building courses, and information you need to achieve the results you want — at school, at work, or in life.
Looking to land a job? You’ll find an entire Learning Center dedicated to helping you get the one that’s right for you. You will need your 14-digit library card number to access this site. Links to both sites (along with many others) can be found on the library resources page of our website at internationalfallslibrary.us/ resources.html.
The May science contests have been posted. Information and supplies (a limited number) are available in the junior room of the library. Stop in and spend some time experimenting this month. The challenge this month is to create a polyform ball from straws and string and then use the ball to challenge someone to a round of indoor golf. Please contact Diane at the library if you’d like more information.
Regardless of the weather, come to the library and pick up a book or two, a movie and spend some time this month reading, learning and enjoying all that the library has to offer. We miss seeing some of you, so come in and reacquaint yourself with the library.
