The International Falls Public Library and the Koochiching County Law Library have been working together to improve community access to legal resources. It is with great pleasure that I am able to announce that the International Falls Public Library now houses a variety of legal resources on behalf of the Koochiching County Law Library in our building. These resources are located in the non-fiction section along the west wall. These resources are for library use only, but are available anytime the library is open. Resources available include a variety of pamphlets published by the Minnesota Attorney General’s office, Dunnell’s Minnesota Digest and a selection of Minnesota CLE Deskbooks including handbooks on Elder Law, Family Law, Debtor-Creditor, DWI and Estate Administration.
The library has also worked to improve its selection of legal materials available for checkout. This includes a selection of NOLO guides which seek to make the law accessible to everyone, including their Guide to Legal Research. The library already subscribes to the Gale/Cengage Legal Forms online database, which can be accessed via our legal research page. The password to access this site from home is available by calling the library, picking up an informational postcard at the library or using the standard library online resource password if you already know it.
The Koochiching County Law Library has also provided a laptop computer to be placed in the public library for legal research including access to Lexis Nexis an online legal research database. The laptop computer is located in the alcove near the public copier and is connected to our high speed, quality printer for printing forms or other research. Prints may be obtained at $.10 per copy. The library has worked to create a section on our webpage for online legal resources including access to online legal forms and sites recommended by the Minnesota State Law Library. These resources, except Lexis Nexis, are available anytime, from any computer. Visit http://internationalfallslibrary.us/legalresearch to see all the quality information available to help you research your legal needs.
The Koochiching County Law Library will continue to have resources at the courthouse, they are now located across the private hall from the second floor courtroom. These materials are generally of more interest to attorneys and trained professionals. Access to these materials is available via request of the Koochiching County law clerk who may be reached at 218-283-1168. Neither the law clerk nor library employees can provide legal advice. We can only help you learn to use the resources provided.
This Saturday, Feb. 23, at 10:30 a.m. will be our annual edible car contest. The winning car’s creator will be able to pick out a science kit. The edible car contest is the first of 12 monthly contests in anticipation of the Discover Tech Exhibit arriving in January 2014.
