As a rural fire member, we received a letter Monday, Nov. 9 informing us of a meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 11. A few things upset me regarding this meeting. Two days notice during the first week of deer season which is not only short notice, but many people will not get the letter because they are at their shacks for the entire week. The other thing (quoting from the letter) "Non-attendance will be noted as support of the direction taken by your Board of Directors."
I think there are going to be some very surprised and upset deer hunters when they realize what took place while they were out enjoying this season.
This is not an accidental choice of dates for this meeting; the last time this type of meeting was called, it was at the Union Hall on Valentine's day -- also short notice.
It's obvious to me that the rural fire board does everything they can to deter members from attending important meetings. If this is how they care about our opinions, how can we trust them to care about protecting our homes from fire.
