I just read, with interest, that the Bush Administration presented and Congress just passed, a measure to do away with our light bulbs by 2012. It seems that since 1879, when Edison first invented the "ole bulb", we have been producing more heat then light. The article further went on to say that we would each save a figure like $1500.00 in 5 years time by doing away with the light bulb. This raises some questions that are troubling to me. Did anybody ever consider that as we have been mostly in the dark since 1879, that we might just like being in the dark most of the time? Also, doesn't the administration and Congress now realize what the global warming problem is all about? I mean if we have been producing more heat then light because of the incandescent light bulb for the last 128 years, which incidently coincides with the period the earth has been heating up, we now have the problem licked. Lastly, I know for a fact, that some people use light bulbs, by choice, as their primary heating source due to the high cost of heat now days. What is to become of them poor souls when their only source of heat now is a cold florescent light? I can see problems arising in the future, no question about it. I just called my NASA buddies and they are very alarmed by all this. It seems that the actual runway lights for the shuttle landings were from the well placed light bulbs extending from Australia to North America. The last shuttle landing was a near disaster as they overshot California and Nevada and landed in Miami due to not being able to see where they were going. I tell you folks, things are going no where fast. I tell you, I think the city and county has already read this article because the $1500.00 I was to save in 5 years has been all but used up by my increased taxes I am going to have to pay them over the next 5 years. I just don't know if I can take any more of this!!!
