Ranier shoreline

Koochiching County Sheriff Brian Jespersen put in place this morning "No Wake Zones" for 300 yards or one-quarter mile from the shoreline of Rainy Lake.

Wakes from boats near the shoreline are eroding shorelines and sandbag dikes around homes, as well as undermining efforts to keep docks in place.

Jespersen made the announcement at an emergency county board meeting this morning.

He also urged boaters to use extreme caution as debris from docks and the shoreline are floating in the lake.

Lake and river levels are expected to continue to rise. Sandbags are being filled again today at City Beach.
