A grand opening planned for the Voyageurs National Park Recreation Trail near the Rainy Lake Visitor Center has been postponed until spring.

The trail, expected to be completed this fall, will not be completed in time for the planned Sept. 7 grand opening, according to park officials.

However, a Hike to Health program offered in connection with Rainy Lake Medical Center will roll out as planned this fall.

In addition, a planned 5K run associated with the grand opening of the trail will be postponed until spring.

The Voyageurs National Park Association Fall Rendezvous will still proceed as scheduled for Sept. 27-28. The event will include tree planting and other work along the recreation trail. More information can be found at http://voyageurs.org/volunteer-rendezvous/

In addition, a special candle lantern-led program will be taking place at the Rainy Lake Visitor Center Sept. 26-28. “Ghosts of Voyageurs” will take place each of those evenings from 7-8:30 p.m. Program is free, but tickets will be required and will be available at the visitor center in mid-September.
