International Falls Fire Department Fire: Department officials suspect that a fire at 1:37 a.m. this morning in an unoccupied basement apartment at 721 Third St. may have been intentionally set. According to the report, a Falls emergency medical technician on an ambulance run to Duluth saw smoke coming from the building, prompting firefighters to respond. Department officials said had the fire, which appeared to have been ignited in two reclining chairs in the apartment, been allowed to burn longer, the entire building may have been destroyed. Damage was reported to the chairs and walls were scorched.
