Capture: A 17-year-old boy was captured by local law officers Tuesday afternoon after escaping from an Arrowhead Regional Corrections transport vehicle. Sheriff Brian Jespersen said Wednesday that the boy had been in court in International Falls earlier in the day. He escaped, while wearing leg shackles, from custody while being transported by ARC staff back to the Arrowhead Juvenile Detention Center in Duluth. Jespersen said the boy’s handcuffs were removed by ARC staff after stopping at a local fast-food restaurant. The boy faked illness while the vehicle was heading south on U.S. Highway 53 and, after the vehicle stopped and staff opened the vehicle’s door, he ran. Assisting in the 45-minute pursuit were U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents and the Minnesota State Patrol Canine Unit.
