A man with business connections to International Falls was sentenced Wednesday in Ramsey County District Court for attempting to hire a minor for sex.

Jayvadan Ramabhai Patel, 41, Owatonna, pleaded guilty in November after he was charged with felony prostitution — hires/offers/agree to hire an individual believed to be age 13 to 16.

Patel is the owner of the AmericInn in International Falls.

Patel was sentenced to two days jail, which he’d already served, and $936 fine and fees. He was placed on seven years’ supervised probation to Ramsey County and ordered to provide a DNA sample to the state. He may not use or possess firearms, ammunition, explosives or toy guns and may not register to vote or vote until he is discharged from probation and his civil rights are fully restored. He was ordered to complete two programs.

He was charged in July in a sting operation known as Guardian Angel, in which undercover agents posted advertisements appearing to offer commercial sex on a website.

Patel, and several others who answered the ads, showed up at an apartment in the Twin Cities in early February 2017 and were arrested.
