Willi Kostiuk, Koochiching County emergency management coordinator, urges people to avoid burning or use extreme caution if burning today as high winds and low humidity create dangerous conditions.

Kostiuk urged people to follow the Arrowhead Emergency Management Association's Facebook page for updates on fire conditions and other emergency information

The National Weather Service has issued the following special weather statement today:

Gusty southwest winds and very low relative humidity will create

near critical fire weather conditions over north-central Minnesota this afternoon through early this evening, including Koochiching County. There will be wind gusts of 20 to 25 mph and the humidity will plummet to around 20 percent. The dry vegetation with these weather conditions will result in a period of elevated fire danger with the potential for wildfires. Please use caution and refer to any burning restrictions today.
