A portion of the AmericInn in International Falls was temporarily closed May 6 due to an incident there.
The International Falls Ambulance Service responded to the hotel on a call about an an unresponsive person there.
The patient was brought to the Rainy Lake Medical Center and later airlifted to a hospital in Duluth. As of late Thursday afternoon, the patient was in critical condition.
International Falls Mayor Bob Anderson reported that it appeared the patient’s condition may have resulted from carbon monoxide entering the sleeping room.
The source of the problem has been abated with the closing of the pool room and the sleeping room and local officials through testing have determined that balance of the hotel is safe to be occupied.
City officials, including the city’s public health officer, have been in contact with state officials who were assisting in determining the cause for the incident.
