RANIER — The Ranier City Council Monday approved advertising in two publications.

The Ranier Municipal Liquor Store will advertise in the area’s Convention and Visitor Bureau’s map pads for $160. According to the CVB, nearly 15,000 maps were in 2009. The map will denote the location of the sponsors, among which will be the Ranier liquor store.

The city will also advertise in the BorderWaters visitor’s guide for 2010. More than 10,000 copies of the magazine are distributed throughout the region, according to BorderWaters. Ranier will purchase a one-fourth page ad for $410.

The council approved purchasing a load of gravel for about $300. The gravel will be used by Ranier maintenance personnel Teddy Pearson to fill pot holes around the town.

The council also approved a building permit for Ranier resident Blaise Blair for a garage on his Pine Street property.

At the end of the meeting, Ranier resident Arden Barnes read vintage Duluth News Tribune articles speaking about the beginnings of Ranier near the turn of the 20th Century.
