The Ranier City Council will consider rescinding the current resolution for annexation and acting on a revised version of the agreement when it meets Monday.
The Ranier City Council meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Ranier Community Center.
Mayor Ed Oerichbauer said that the changes to the joint resolution and annexation agreement stem from language detailing the public hearing by an administrative law judge.
The current wording, which was approved by the council on June 22, said that if both Ranier and Koochiching County approved the document that the administrative law judge would, after conducting the public hearing, approve annexation.
At a June 22 meeting on annexation, several Ranier residents questioned the wording and asked if the judge would make a ruling or if the judge was obliged to approve annexation regardless of what was said at the hearing.
Similar questions were asked at the Koochiching County Board meeting. This, and other questions, led the county board last month to hold off on action on the resolution and conduct another public meeting on the issue. That second meeting took place on July 13.
In related business, the council is expected to hear from Ranier resident Andy Hedlund, who has submitted a proposal to rescind the resolution for orderly annexation.
In other business, councilors will discuss a request from Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc. for additional information about $14,000 that will be used to map water lines for rural development.
Also on the agenda are: purchasing a 20-foot by 30-foot tent; a softball team sponsorship; repairing and purchasing sand for the Ranier beach; and waiving the hall rental fee for the Rainy Lake Community Orchestra.
A public forum is scheduled for every regular meeting of the Ranier City Council.
