The Ranier City Council Monday accepted the resignation of maintenance employee Ted Pearson.

Pearson submitted a letter of resignation earlier this month after accepting a job with Koochiching County.

Ranier City Clerk Kim Nuthak reported to The Journal that the job has been posted and so far, nine applications have been received. She added that interested applicants have until noon on Aug. 24 to apply.

Pearson’s last day is Aug. 24, but Nuthak said he has agreed to work part-time for the city in order to train in a new employee. Pearson has worked for Ranier since May 2009.

Also Monday, the council agreed to offer the pay for the maintenance employee starting at $17.25 per hour. Nuthak reported that when Pearson was hired, the pay started at $15.50 per hour. Pearson’s wage is currently $17 per hour. Nuthak told The Journal that Pearson was aware that the maintenance salary was being reviewed prior to his resignation.

In other business Monday, the council agreed to move the city clerk’s position from part time to full time. Nuthak now works 28 hours per week and Monday’s action will bring her up to 40 hours per week.

As a result of the extended hours, the clerk’s office will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to noon on Friday.

The liquor store’s year-to-date net profit is $19,494 — down from last year’s of $32,250.

The council acknowledged Sjoblom’s Landscaping and Nursery for mowing areas in the city at no charge.
