Backus Community Center hosted a Red Cross training session May 4 that covered cardiopulmonary resuscitation, first aid and automated external defibrillator training. Forty participants from Backus, Northland Counseling, 4-H, Backus Kids Club and others, were instructed by Carrie Mooers and Steve Smith from the Red Cross in Duluth. Funding for the in-house training was provided by a grant from the Otto Bremer Foundation to the Red Cross in Minneapolis. Diane Johnson-Smalley is pictured receiving first aid from Blanche Halverson with Backus Kids Club paraprofessionals Krystal George and Jamie Hell practicing their skills also.
