MnDOT Staff Report

As of Monday, motorists on Highway 1 are encountering a detour and delays, while crews resurface the road from Northome to Effie. The project also includes replacing culverts, resurfacing a portion of Highway 6 north of the junction with Highway 1 and completing major construction in Effie.

It was previously announced that traffic would be detoured to Koochiching County Road 6, but an emergency change has been made. From Northome, traffic will detour north on Highway 71 to Big Falls, then south on State Highway 6 to the junction with  Highway 1. Motorists on westbound Highway 1 from Effie will use the same detour in reverse beginning at the junction with State Highway 6. The detour is estimated to be in place until approximately July 28.

A public information meeting about the project took place Monday the Effie Community Center, located in the American Legion building, Highway 38, Effie.

In other project locations, motorists will encounter lane closures and alternate using one lane. Work was scheduled to begin in Effie Tuesday and will require a parking ban and closures on intersecting streets.

The work in Effie will be complete by mid-September and the overall project will be complete by early November, weather permitting.

Motorists should slow down in all work zones, allow extra time for delays, be alert to flaggers and signing information and watch for workers and heavy equipment.
