The Littlefork-Big Falls School Board Wednesday approved moving school board elections from odd to even-numbered years, putting it in line with regular state elections.

The move is a cost-saving measure for the district, according to Superintendent Fred Seybert.

Elections will now be held beginning in 2014, and will happen every two years as usual. Most Minnesota school districts follow this election schedule, Seybert said. Of the 337 Minnesota school districts, 53 hold elections in the odd-numbered years, he added.

In other meeting business, the board reported it has reached a tentative contract agreement with non-certified staff, and ratification of that contract is expected to occur at the April meeting, according to information from Seybert.

“The board commended the certified and non-certified staff on the negotiation process,” Seybert told The Journal. “Between the two unions, the board only met a total of four times with the unions.”

In other business, the board approved three resignations and one hiring.  Resignations included Aaron Pinske, social studies, health and Title I teacher; Derek Bilben, head football coach; and Christopher Backmeier, athletic director.

Maia Bergloff was hired as a part-time social studies teacher for this school year.

The district calendar for the 2012-13 school year was also approved.

In May, changes to district policy will be recommended to the board, Seybert said.

Possible building projects for next school year will be prioritized by the building and grounds committee, who will meet later this month.

The board set the date for the Awards Night Ceremony for academic and athletic recognition for 7 p.m. May 7. The event will take place in the high school commons.
