The Littlefork-Big Falls School Board Wednesday heard an update from Superintendent Fred Seybert on upgrades and additions to the school’s security system.
Seybert reported to The Journal that each year the school’s system is reviewed to determine what is necessary to include for added security.
This month, a system that buzzes visitors into the school was installed, and Seybert reports, “of course, there is a transition, but the change is becoming smoother by the day.”
Seybert said the cost of the system was $500.
In addition to the buzzer system, a new camera has been installed in the main entry by the secretary’s office.
“This is very important because it allows office staff to determine who actually is at the front door requesting entry,” Seybert’s report said of the $750 camera. “Once a determination is made to allow entry, the individual at the front desk can make it possible for that individual to enter the building, or to deny that request.”
He continued that there will be three more cameras installed in the building, including one more inside and two outside. With added cameras, he said, key areas of the school and playground will be monitored.
Cameras in the high school wing of the building have been lowered to allow for a better, more clear view, the superintendent said.
Seybert said a random, practice lockdown was recently held at the school; and he credits students and staff for performing the procedure “very well.”
“No major issues were noted,” he said.
