Meyers Sports repeated as the Larry Ross Open Division champion at last weekend’s Kerry Park Men’s Hockey Tournament.
In Sunday’s championship game, Meyers dominated the Dragon Slayers, 9-2.
In another eight-team bracket, the 40-plus Dunn Sampson Division, the Metro Mallards also repeated as champions with a lopsided win in the title game over the Viking Bar, 13-2.
The 30-plus Jim Thompson Division, which had six teams competing, featured the Young Broncos winning the championship over the Hoppers Bruins.
In the 50-plus Buck Riley Division, in which four teams played in a round-robin format, the Bemidji Error Force won all three of its game to capture the title.
The annual tournament, which wrapped up its 13th year and serves as a fundraiser for the International Falls Recreation Hockey program and for capital improvements at Kerry Park Arena and Bronco Arena, took place Friday through Sunday at both arenas in the Falls.
In the first 12 years of existence, the Tournament Committee reported the annual event has raised more than $150,000 combined.
With 26 teams once again participating, Tournament Committee member Scott Riley said this year’s proceeds should be “very typical to other years” with community support that made the event possible.
Riley said the city of International Falls and the Falls School District made their facilities available for this year’s tournament, while City Cab provided free taxi service for two nights and the Rotary Club made its liquor license available.
Saturday’s Clinton Bahr Shootout featured 22 shooters and three goalies competing for cash and the top prize, a 32-inch LCD television.
Goalie Shane Pikula of Virginia, who was the 2011 overall winner, advanced to this year’s finals against shooter C.J. Pullar of Elk River. In the final shootout, Pullar put the puck past Pikula to win the TV and become the 2013 overall winner.
In the 13 years of the Clinton Bahr Shootout, the shooter has been the overall winner only four times.
