Ohio State University senior goalie Brady Hjelle of International Falls and the Buckeyes men’s hockey team will be playing for the CCHA Championship this weekend at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.

The No. 3 seed OSU will face No. 2 Notre Dame in the first semifinal at 12:05 p.m. CDT today, followed by a semifinal game at 3:35 p.m. between No. 1 seed Miami of Ohio and No. 4 seed Michigan.

The semifinal winners will meet at 1:05 p.m. Sunday for the 42nd and final league title and the CCHA’s berth in the 2013 NCAA Tournament.

The Buckeyes are 16-16-7 overall and finished CCHA play in fourth place with a 13-10-5-1 record. Ohio State defeated No. 5 seed Ferris State in a CCHA tournament quarterfinal best-of-three series, 2-1, in the OSU Ice Rink in Columbus last weekend to advance to the CCHA semifinals.

The Bulldogs won game one, 4-2, before Ohio State tied the series with a 3-1 victory in game two and clinched the series with a 3-2 win in game three.

Hjelle, a top-three finalist for CCHA Player of the Year honors and a First Team All-CCHA choice, played all three games in goal for the Buckeyes against Ferris State.
