It took perfection to defeat the International Falls Legion baseball team on Friday at the Division II State Tournament in Luverne.
The Post 66 Broncos couldn't get a runner on base in seven innings when St. James pitcher Walker Froehling threw a perfect game as the Post 66 Broncos lost their tournament opener, 1-0. Froehling struck out eight of the 21 batters he faced.
St. James scored its only run in the bottom of the second when Falls pitcher Caleb Dahlin walked a batter with the bases loaded.
Dalhin allowed an earned run on three hits with four walks while striking out three over six innings.
The Post 66 Broncos, who are out of the running for the state championship in the eight-team, single-elimination tournament, play in the consolation bracket at 11:30 a.m. Saturday against La Crescent, which lost its opening game to Luverne, 5-2.
