The International Falls VFW baseball team opened its 2013 season Tuesday by splitting a doubleheader at Hibbing.
In the first game that counted for tournament seeding purposes, the Falls defeated Hibbing, 5-4.
Ben Humbert started on the mound for the Falls and also recorded the pitching victory, while Wyatt Ulrich pitched in relief.
Falls’ hitting highlights in the first game included a two-run single by Cole Miggins.
Hibbing ended up winning the second game over the Falls, 9-1.
The Falls is competing this weekend in a tournament at Grand Rapids, before hosting Grand Rapids at Scheela Field next Tuesday in a doubleheader that begins at 3 p.m.
