Fort Frances forward Kevin Kurm scored twice and set up another goal to help lead the Lakers to a 5-3 victory over the Thunder Bay North Stars on Monday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Ice for Kids Arena.
Daniel Delpaggio notched all three goals for Thunder Bay in defeat.
After Delpaggio opened the scoring 8:41 into the contest, Fort Frances responded with three goals to go up 3-1 after 20 minutes when Kurm, 2012 Falls High School graduate Mason Meyer and Bryce Lipinski each scored.
The North Stars rookie supplied the only offensive production in the middle period to pull the North Stars within one heading into the final 20 minutes.
Meyer’s second goal of the night put the Lakers up, 4-2, 4:48 into the last period while Kurm scored again 62 seconds later.
Delpaggio completed his hat trick midway through the third, but that turned out to be the final goal of the night.
Lyndon Lipinski chipped in with two assists to aid the Lakers’ cause in the victory.
Fort Frances outshot Thunder Bay, 48-38, on the night with Jordan Cartney picking up the win and Nathanial Dupuis the loss in goal.
The Lakers return to action at 7:30 p.m. Friday when they host the Dryden Ice Dogs.
