The Broncos’ Josh Potter (24) slides into third base and ends up being tagged out by Duluth Marshall’s John Skramstad in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader at Scheela Field.

International Falls held Duluth Marshall scoreless for 14 innings Saturday afternoon when the Broncos swept a doubleheader at Scheela Field.

In game one, Ben Humbert scattered 8 hits and struck out six to record a shutout pitching seven innings when the Falls won, 6-0.

At the plate, Humbert doubled and drove in a pair of runs, while Caleb Dahlin, Gunnar Anderson and Christian Kittelson each singled for the Falls.

“We didn’t hit the ball extremely well, but they made a few errors that cost them and gave us a few runs, and we jumped on our chances,” Kittelson said.

Duluth Marshall, which committed 7 errors over both games, had a trio of fielding miscues in the opening contest.

Anthony Carter recorded the loss after pitching only the first inning, giving up 4 runs on a hit with 2 walks, a pair of hit batters and a strikeout. Doug Lewis worked the next five innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits with a walk and 5 strikeouts.

Lewis and Tyler Cummins each had 3 singles for Marshall.

Kittelson allowed only 3 hits with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts, while Dahlin struck out two of the three batters he faced in the seventh.

“We got a shutout both games, so pitching went very well,” Kittelson said. “My arm hurt a little bit (and Dahlin came in to) close out.”

Alex Johnson was the losing pitcher for Marshall, giving up 4 runs on 3 hits with 2 walks in the first three innings. Ian Zenner threw the final three innings and allowed a run on 3 hits with 2 walks and a strikeout.
