International Falls held Duluth Marshall scoreless for 14 innings Saturday afternoon when the Broncos swept a doubleheader at Scheela Field.
In game one, Ben Humbert scattered 8 hits and struck out six to record a shutout pitching seven innings when the Falls won, 6-0.
At the plate, Humbert doubled and drove in a pair of runs, while Caleb Dahlin, Gunnar Anderson and Christian Kittelson each singled for the Falls.
“We didn’t hit the ball extremely well, but they made a few errors that cost them and gave us a few runs, and we jumped on our chances,” Kittelson said.
Duluth Marshall, which committed 7 errors over both games, had a trio of fielding miscues in the opening contest.
Anthony Carter recorded the loss after pitching only the first inning, giving up 4 runs on a hit with 2 walks, a pair of hit batters and a strikeout. Doug Lewis worked the next five innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits with a walk and 5 strikeouts.
Lewis and Tyler Cummins each had 3 singles for Marshall.
I. Falls 5, Marshall 0
Kittelson pitched six shutout innings before being relieved in the final frame by Dahlin as the Broncos won game two, 5-0.
Kittelson allowed only 3 hits with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts, while Dahlin struck out two of the three batters he faced in the seventh.
“We got a shutout both games, so pitching went very well,” Kittelson said. “My arm hurt a little bit (and Dahlin came in to) close out.”
Alex Johnson was the losing pitcher for Marshall, giving up 4 runs on 3 hits with 2 walks in the first three innings. Ian Zenner threw the final three innings and allowed a run on 3 hits with 2 walks and a strikeout.
Of Falls’ six hits, Anderson and John Bartkowski each had a pair of singles, while Wyatt Ulrich and Kevin Kilbride each singled.
I. Falls 8, North Woods 0
The Broncos recorded another shutout at Cook on Tuesday when they blanked North Woods, 8-0.
Wyatt Ulrich pitched all seven innings to pick up his third varsity victory, scattering 6 hits and hitting a batter while striking out seven.
Falls tallied 13 hits. Ulrich had 3 singles, Humbert doubled and tripled with 3 RBI, and Kittelson, Anderson and Dahlin each added 2 hits.
The Broncos, who have won seven games in a row and improved to 11-5, next host Greenway at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
