In a battle for home-field advantage in a play-in game for the Section 7A tournament, Littlefork-Big Falls trounced Mesabi East in Aurora on Thursday, 16-5 in six innings.
The Vikings (4-13) will now host the Giants (2-14) at 10 a.m. Saturday in Littlefork, according to L-BF head coach Doug Henrickson, who wasn’t sure if it was an 8-9 or 7-10 matchup. If the Vikings would’ve lost Thursday, they would’ve traveled to Aurora again.
Mason Imhof picked up the win in a complete game, but it was the offense that stole the spotlight. Brett Burmeister finished 3-for-4 with a home run, double and three RBIs, Jared Ecklund was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs and Kyle Burmeister went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Justin Franz also finished 2-for-5.
The Vikings scored in every inning and led 8-5 after three innings before breaking it open.
Alex Rowbottom took the loss for Mesabi East, whose two victories this season came against Cotton (2-12) and Babbitt-Embarrass/Tower-Soudan (1-15).
