International Falls outscores Littlefork-Big Falls 42-22 in second half
LITTLEFORK — International Falls got a scare Tuesday from an improved Littlefork-Big Falls squad, but the Broncos were able to pull away in the second half in a 73-47 win.
It’s the sixth win in eight games for the Broncos (12-11), and seventh straight win against the Vikings (1-18).
L-BF hasn’t defeated International Falls since the 2007-08 season.
“Shawn (Gilbert) told us we had to pick it up after halftime and everyone did,” said Broncos sophomore Sophie Fredrickson, who finished with a team-high 19 points.
Brooke Millerbernd scored a game-high 25 points for the Vikings, who trailed only 31-25 at half.
However, the Broncos opened the second half with an 11-2 run to pull away.
“We’re capable of winning,” Vikings head coach John Larson said. “It’s just we don’t show up every night.”
Jenna Vergeldt (18 points), Rachel Foss (12) and Reva Renollet (10) all finished in double figures for the Broncos.
Rachael Van Drunen added eight points and DyAnna Imhof and Paige DeLack scored seven points apiece for the Vikings. Millerbernd finished 17-for-21 from the free-throw line and accounted for 17 of L-BF’s first 29 points.
A sluggish start to the second half doomed the home team, however.
“It really was,” Millerbernd said. “The whole momentum changed. We had more turnovers and everyone was down. We really needed to fire up.”
The Broncos held the Vikings to only 29 total points in the first meeting Jan. 27 when International Falls won 69-29.
