Tim Myles scored eight consecutive points early in the second half Thursday and sparked a ferocious comeback by International Falls, which went on to beat Warroad 62-48 at the Falls High Gym.
Shawn Filipiak led the Broncos with a game-high 23 points and Myles added 10. Trevar Carlson and Gunnar Anderson scored eight points apiece.
Matt Vickaryous led Warroad (4-12) with 11 points and Dennis Klicker added 10 points.
With 12:35 to play, Myles started his run with a basket to cut the Warriors lead to 10 at 41-31. Myles’ 8-2 run all by himself cut the lead to 43-37, and his teammates did the rest.
Filipiak and Anderson hit back-to-back 3-pointers to tie it at 43, and after exchanging baskets, the Broncos ended the game on a 12-3 run.
“Defense came out. We really started playing good defense and starting making our shots,” Filipiak said.
The Broncos (12-6), which trailed 33-25 at the break, outscored the Warriors 37-15 in the second half. It’s the second straight game the Falls held an opponent to 15 second-half points.
“They turned up the defense pretty good and we forgot to play defense,” Warroad head coach Lance Sage said.
Myles’ performance could’ve been even better had he not finished 0-for-8 from the free-throw line. As a team, the Broncos finished 9 of 21.
Warroad was even worse at 5 of 16.
International Falls has won two straight, five of six and eight of 10.
