International Falls avoided a letdown Tuesday with a one-sided 69-41 win against Greenway at the Falls High Gymnasium.

The Broncos (6-4) were coming off a hard-fought win in overtime Monday at Eveleth-Gilbert.

“Don’t look past them,” said Broncos senior Tim Myles, who finished with a game-high 24 points. “Didn’t want to overlook a team and have it end up like a Fort Frances game.”

The Falls had its worst offensive output of the season in a loss to the Muskies back on Dec. 18. The contest was sandwiched between a loss to Chisholm and a win against Littlefork-Big Falls.

Shawn Filipiak finished with 12 points, Marcus Zawchenuk had eight points, Adam Potter scored seven points and Ethan Johns posted six points and eight rebounds. Myles also had seven rebounds, six steals and four assists.

The Broncos clearly avoided looking past the Raiders when their full-court pressure took control early. The Falls led 25-9 with just over 10 minutes to play in the first half, and took a 43-25 lead in at the break.

Greenway struggled mightily to bring the ball up against a new full-court press the Broncos were running for the second time this season.

“We’re getting better and better at it,” Myles said.

Kyle Root led the winless Raiders (0-10) with 17 points.

The Broncos, riding a two-game win streak, return to action Friday at home against Babbitt-Embarrass.

Game notes

• Former Bronco Danika Stelton was honored at halftime for becoming the 14th player in Falls High history to eclipse the 1,000-point plateau. Stelton received a plaque from Booster Club President Chris Oustad before unveiling her name on the wall with all the other members of the 1,000-point club.

Stelton finished with 1,060 points, 334 assists and 240 steals. She’s first in school history in free throws attempted and made, and second all time in 3-pointers made.

Aaron Skoglund, who reached 1,000 points nearly two weeks before Stelton last season, will be honored Friday at halftime of the boys basketball game against the Knights.

• The second half went into running time when the Broncos led by 35 points. Running time stopped when the Raiders cut the lead to under 30.

• The Broncos scorched the nets and shot 55 percent from the field (27 of 49). The Raiders, however, shot 38 percent (14 of 37).

• The Raiders are only averaging 37.3 points per game. They’re giving up an average of 71.8 points.
